STAR: Surgery in Teens - Assessing Recovery

The objective of this research is to identify acute recovery patterns that predict the development of Chronic Postsurgical Pain (CPSP) and to identify psychosocial and psychophysical mechanisms underlying the transition from acute to CPSP in youth, consistent with the priorities of the Federal Pain Research Strategy. Findings are expected to inform future research developing interventions to reduce exposure to opioids and prevent CPSP, with the goal of improving long-term outcomes in youth after musculoskeletal surgery.
